English Proficiency Tests

If you are a student who wants to apply to a programme overseas that is taught in English, you must provide proof of your English proficiency as part of your application. To do this, you will need to take an English proficiency test. The following are four of the most widely accepted English proficiency tests: IELTS, IELTS UKVI, TOEFL and PTE.

IELTS

The IELTS, International English Language Testing System, is an English language test for study, migration or work. The test was established in 1989 and is currently managed by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English. IELTS is accepted by more than 11,000 employers, universities, schools and immigration bodies around the world and over 3 million people take the test every year.

IELTS UKVI

The IETLS UKVI, International English Language Testing System for UK Visas and Immigrations is an English test for those who wish to apply for a Visa or immigrate to the UK. This test is similar to the normal IETLS, however, this one is in support of a UK Visas and Immigration application.

TOEFL

TOEFL, also known as Test of English as a Foreign Language, is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of international students wishing to enrol in English-speaking universities. More than 11,500 universities and institutions in over 160 countries recognize and accept the test. Created in 1973, ETS, Educational Testing Service Business, is the organization that administers the test.

PTE

The Pearson Test of English, PTE, is an English proficiency test for study, work and visas. This test is accepted by the Australian, New Zealand and the UK government as well as over 3,000 universities and colleges in 74 countries. Developed more than 10 years ago, the PTE is a simpler, faster and more accurate alternative.
