Raffles American School

Raffles American School (RAS) is a premium K-12 boarding school located in Johor, Malaysia. RAS caters to students starting in the Pre-Kindergarten program through to 12th Grade (ages 3 – 18). RAS offers an outstanding American education with highly qualified international teachers. RAS features a native English speaking teaching staff trained and hold teaching certifications from the USA and other Western countries.

The goal at RAS is to educate the whole child through inquiry-based learning. The curriculum follows the Common Core Standards for Math and Language Arts, Next Generation Standards for Science, and the American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards for Social Studies. In addition, the strong co-curricular program offers a large variety of activities to appeal to the interests of all students, such as sports, dance, music, and art.

Obtaining and maintaining the accreditation is an integral asset to RAS. RAS is accredited by The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), which is a renowned accrediting association which works closely with the Office of Overseas Schools under the US Department of State. This accreditation not only ensures the highest calibre of educational standards, but validates the students records and transcripts. Additionally, with this accreditation, students receive an American diploma upon graduation from high school.

What really sets RAS apart are the four General Learning Outcomes (GLOs): problem-solving/thinking skills, communication skills, character/interpersonal skills, and organization/research skills. These 4 GLOs are the backbone of both RAS’s educational and co-curricular programs and are assessed throughout the year in all areas. Important in all aspects of life, these four skills bridge the academic world to the real world and prepare all students for the 21st century.

RAS is one of the premier educational facilities in Southeast Asia. This includes state of the art athletic facilities consisting of two gymnasiums, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, learning pool, tennis courts, two soccer pitches, a track, and a baseball field. The fine Arts Center consists of an 800-seat auditorium, black-box theater, practice rooms, and classrooms. A planetarium compliments the custom-designed science labs. The cafeteria offers nutritional choices for snacks and lunches prepared on campus by their own kitchen staff because RAS understands the relationship between good nutrition and increased student learning.
